What Do You Wear For A Mardi Gras Party 2020? 8 Hot Mardi Gras Outfits That Rock

What do you wear for a Mardi Gras Party? With February rapidly approaching, it’s time for all dedicated party-goers to start thinking seriously about their Mardi Gras outfits! Many people start organising their Mardi Gras costumes as soon as Xmas is done and dusted. So if you still haven’t finalised your costumes, there’s no time like the present!

At Costumebox, we LOVE parties and Mardi Gras is one of the best festivals of the year! We have lots of fabulous ideas for your Mardi Gras outfits, covering everything you need to know about how to dress for a Mardi Gras theme party and where to buy Mardi Gras costumes. So let’s get this party started!

How to dress for a Mardi Gras theme party

Whilst Mardi Gras costumes are colourful, sexy and fabulously outrageous, they also need to be comfortable, because you will be wearing them for hours and hours! Another important factor is that there are no rules, so you can let your imagination run wild – as long as you are comfortable!

Here are our quick tips on how to dress for a Mardi Gras theme party.

Mardi Gras colour schemes

Knowing how to dress for a Mardi Gras theme party starts with colours because the traditional colours of Mardi Gras are gold, purple and green (gold signifies power, purple for justice, and green for faith). So to be true to tradition, you should use these colours for your costume, but since there are no rules, you can go anywhere with your colour scheme and be as outlandish and decadent as you want!

Mardi Gras makeup

Whether you are wearing a Mardi Gras mask or not, you still need spectacular makeup to match your costume. There’s nothing subtle about Mardi Gras makeup because you want it to be part of your costume! Large eyelashes, glitter, sultry feathers, bright and seductive eyeshadow, and luscious lips are all factors to consider when designing your makeup for Mardi Gras.

On the one hand, you might prefer minimal makeup with enough glitter to make it Mardi Gras suitable or you might want to go all the way with glitter lips, rainbow-coloured eyes and chunky glitter eyebrows! There are plenty of great tutorials on YouTube, so you can let your imagination and creativity run wild!

Mardi Gras masks

Mardi Gras masks are traditional wear for these festivities. You can make your own if you are into crafts or purchase them online (we have a large supply of fabulous masks in the Costumebox vaults). The thing to remember with your masks is that they should complement your Mardi Gras costumes; the most popular type of masks are glitter masks, cat’s eye masks and harlequin masks. With Mardi Gras masks, the bigger and more elaborate the better – you can even purchase a simple mask and jazz it up yourself!

You can also purchase masks on a stick, which are very decadent! They are popular however with people who wear glasses because trying to fit a wearable mask over their glasses can be difficult and uncomfortable. If you are going with a DIY option, just attach a piece of dowel to the mask and you will be good to go!
